How to ease the pain of a cartilage piercing?

im getting my cartilage pierced, but im kinda scared! is there anything i can do so it wont hurt as bad? and what about the after pain? what is that like? is it just soreness? cause im pretty sure i can handle that. and would advil get rid of it (temporarily)?
