Relieving pain from braces?

I got my braces adjusted today and they hurt really bad. What helps besides taking advil? Also, how much longer do i need to wear them for? I got them on April 13, 2010, and i have 1 tooth thats growing in and another that is close to falling out. I need rubber bands for an overbite.
