Is being handy with computers a good skill?

A while ago I've been really fixated on computers so much that I taught myself how to build a exceptional computer from the ground up and how to set up decent websites also software creation and virus removal I was thinking of doing a career in information technology I am 16 and I am wondering if I should Follow this career or am I just wasting my time
