Relief for braces? Hooks for elastic therapy?

My orthdontist has a hook on every bracket for elastic therapy and I just got my braces today. If someone can give me advice for relief (the wax won't stay on the hook as far as I can get it and I've taken advil. 10 points for the first thing that works for me!
